hacmp and lan-free, how to plan heartbeat LUN size & SAN connections

question 1: how much size for disk heartbeat we used usually? if need 1G or more?

question 2: if we need HACMP and lan_free,I think need seperate data flow and backup flow,then we need the less is 3 FC card? if connect to switch and DS4700, how about ZONE we need? my thinks is except HACMP zone,use one zone is ok,all backup FC card and FC tape driver and DS4700 controller in the same zone will be ok?

1. 1G is unnecessary, typical LUN size for hearbeat is tens or hundreds of MB

2. 3 FC HBAs are recommended, especially with massive I/O access

3. To avoid any unpredictable bugs or incompatibility problems, isolating each I/O path from others is a good idea, so 1 to 1 zones are strong recommended, e.g. 2 hosts each equipped with 3 FC HBAs, 2 SAN switches, 1 DS4700, and 1 tape library with 2 FC drives, the best zoneing plan needs 10 zones, 2 hosts × 2 HBAs × 2 DS4700 controllers = 8, 2 hosts × 1 HBA × 2 tape drives = 4，but only one switch can be connected with one tape drive, not like DS4700 controllers, so there are only 2 connections among 2 hosts and 2 tape drives, 8+2=10. Each SAN switch have 5 zones working. And, if I were the sys admin, I'd like to configure both SAN switches with all 10 zones, hence I don't have to maintain different switch configurations, and even you connect any HBA and its target devices to any switch, the system will work correctly.

recommendations:
1. Don't use "we" while it shoudn't be, this 国人常用套近乎语气的说法 is Chinglish, although it sounds polite between Chinese.
2. "think need", two verbs two predictes? should be "I think sth. needed".
3. 至少 is "at least", not "the less", so, "then we need 3 FC cards at least?"
4. Usually "except..." phrase is put at the end of a sentence
5. 驱动器 is drive, not driver, driver is 驱动程序
6. Use the same word frequently is boring, like "need"

除了心跳LUN应该配多大以外，LZ的问题和是否有HACMP、LAN-Free backup没有关系，这是SAN连接的问题，物理层面不关心上层用不用集群或者是否LAN-Free，没区别，都应当这样配

关于英文，得共同学习，我也改了无数次回帖，修正了不少错误，例如switches写成switchs，3 FC HBAs are...写成3 FC HBA is等等。英语好的TX在LU出现过不少，尤其是在国外工作的，需要向他们学习。

我们做工程师的，自己要看得起自己，任何方面都需要体现专业化职业化，要与电脑城小工划清界限，别人才能看得起你

你到电脑城不是小工，是大工:lol ，我去了连小工都不如，直接被扫地出门，不会搞什么万能装机、WINDOWS DOMAIN之类

呵呵,,,学好E文确实很有用,起码能提高自身的形象.

我追问一个问题关于磁盘心跳的：
这个大小有没有经典值？或者一个使用惯例？比如1个PP或者2个PP?或者其它？

没有经典值。是你能做的最少的LUN，其实用在心跳的space少于1kb.
