hi all

we are recently going to upgrade tow Mcdata 4500 to 4400 SAN switches. those two 4500 were designed to be redendant. those tow 4500 has three pseries 650 boxes and fastT 700 storage equipment connected. zones were set up.

currently, all 4500 and 4400 are staying in same level firmware and i havei duplicated all configuration from 4500 to 4400. when i was trying to replace 4500 with 4400 one by one - unpluged all ports from 4500 and plugged them to 4400, i found no one connected and all logical disks in fastT 700 failed over to another path and would not be forced back to their perfered path. but if all ports swapped back to 4500, all logical disks were able to be send back to their perfered path.

and also McData support told me they found the traffic in 4400 and they were optional. do i need to do some special things before port migragation? does anybody have same experience like that?

you should checking 4400 SAN switch configuration with zoning carefullly.

thanks for all reponsees firstly. i have fixes this problem since last downtime. all you need to do is that shutdown your boxes and unplug ports from 4500 and plug into 4400 and boot your boxes again. all port will be connected by their own without any more operation.

in sum, Madata SAN switches are not able to plug and play within migration procedure from 4500 to 4400 as i have been told by McData support engineer. but there is a point we should consider. because the SAN environment is complicated, a lot of things involved, any part could make toubles. probably, this migration could happen in other environment on the fly, but it is not able to be done in mine.

my environment: 2  p5 570 and 1 p650; fastT 700; rdac HBA 6228 and 5716; Mcdata 4400 and 4500 with 8.2 firmware.
