Integrated Virtualisation Manager
The Integrated Virtualisation Manager (IVM) literally allows you to point, click and consolidate workloads with its easy to use browser-based interface. The IVM lowers the cost of entry into POWER™ virtualisation since it does not require the use of a hardware management console for single system partitioning. With IVM, you can partition a single system, including the creation of LPARs, and management of virtual storage and virtual Ethernet. Best of all, IVM is included at no additional cost with the optional purchase of Advanced POWER virtualisation on most IBM System p™ entry to mid-range models as well as the BladeCenter JS21 and JS22. It is packaged in the Virtual I/O Server.
The Integrated Virtualisation Manager is an ideal solution for:
Smaller to mid-sized businesses looking to consolidate existing workloads onto one or two POWER servers, or
Businesses with a geographically distributed IT infrastructure which would otherwise require a Hardware Management Console (HMC) for each location, like a organisation with many branch locations)
Here is a sampling of what you can do with the Integrated Virtualisation Manager:
Create and manage logical partitions
Configure the virtual Ethernet networks
Manage storage in the Virtual I/O Server
Create and manage user accounts
Create and manage serviceable events through Service Focal Point
Download and install updates to device microcode and to Virtual I/O Server software
Back up and restore logical partition configuration information
View application logs and the device inventory
